Caroline Erskine – Executive Director of We the Citizens and Prof. David Farrell – Academic Director of the We the Citizens team spoke at the MacGill Summer School today. The theme of the discussion was called ‘Transforming our Politics – Have we the Will?’ and also on the panel were Prof. Peter Mair, Eamon Ryan, Micheál Martin TD and it was chaired by Caroline Gill.
Caroline said that engaging Irish people in deliberate decision-making would enhance our representative democracy. She also said that initial evidence from the project is that engaging Irish people in this form of deliberate decision-making would enhance our representative democracy.
Caroline Erskine told the MacGill Summer School said that bringing Irish people together; giving them objective information and the opportunity to deliberate on certain issues would lead to informed decision-making and a greater sense of connection to politics.
